Chitrak or Plumbago zeylanica is one of the main ingredients in this Ayurvedic recipe and is one of the oldest Ayurvedic plants. It has a pungent taste and has light, dry, and Pitta-increasing properties.
Chitrakadi Vati also contains many spices, such as black pepper, pippali (Piper longum, long pepper), Piper chaba, a variant of long pepper, ginger, and asafoetida. According to Ayurveda, all these spices support digestion (i.e., agni, digestive fire). Various Ayurvedic salts also help balance pitta.
