The Buddhist flag was designed in the late 19th century to uniformly symbolize Buddhism and the Buddha’s teachings. The flag contains five stripes of different colours and a sixth stripe on which all five colours are found. This is the Tibetan variation of the flag, with the fifth stripe being burgundy and representing the colour of a monk’s robes.
